Sixes
Rotating partners, three best-ball matches
Built for a foursome
Round Robin for a foursome. Partners rotate every six holes so you team with each of the other three across three best-ball matches. Win a match for a point each, halve it for a half. Most points wins.
Setup
- Handicaps
- Optional. With handicaps on, each match is best-ball on net strokes.
- Points
- Three matches with rotating partners. Win a match for a point each partner; a halved match is a half each.
How to play Sixes
- Exactly four players.
- Partners rotate every six holes (every three on a 9-hole round).
- Holes 1-6: A and B vs C and D. Holes 7-12: A and C vs B and D. Holes 13-18: A and D vs B and C.
- Each match is best-ball: the lower of a team's two scores wins the hole.
- Win more holes to win the match; both partners earn a point, or a half each if halved.
Scoring
| Win a match (both partners) | +1 point |
|---|---|
| Halve a match (all four players) | +0.5 point |
Ties: A halved match splits the points: half a point to every player in it.
Most points across the three matches (6 points available).
Strategy
- You partner everyone once, so a strong showing in any match keeps you in the hunt.
- Best-ball rewards aggression: with a partner backing you up, chase birdies.
- With handicaps on, your strokes fall on different holes each match, so know where they land.
Example
- Ana4 HCP
- Ben10 HCP
- Cal14 HCP
- Dee20 HCP
Match 1, holes 1-6: Ana and Ben vs Cal and Dee. Ana/Ben win 4 holes, Cal/Dee win 1, one halved.
What happens
- Ana and Ben win the match 4 holes to 1.
- Both Ana and Ben earn 1 point for the match.
- Cal and Dee earn nothing this match, then re-partner for the next six holes.
Ana 1, Ben 1, Cal 0, Dee 0 after Match 1, with two matches still to play.
A match win pays both partners a point; standings are the points banked across all three matches.
