Vegas
High-scoring team format
Exactly 4 players (2v2 teams)
Team game using combined scores. Lower score goes first to form a 2-digit number (e.g., 4 and 5 = 45). Difference between teams is the points. High-scoring action!
Setup
- Handicaps
- Can play gross or net. Net evens the match but reduces swings.
- Points
- Points = difference between team numbers. Set a per-point value and/or caps.
How to play Vegas
- Two 2-person teams compete on each hole
- Each team combines individual scores into a 2-digit number
- CRITICAL: Lower score goes first (4 and 6 = 46, not 64)
- The difference between team numbers is the points won/lost
- Optional 'Flip' rule: If EITHER teammate makes double bogey+, digits flip to higher number (46 becomes 64)
Standard team order. Losing team has honors on next tee (for comeback chance).
Scoring
| Point difference per hole | +1 point |
|---|---|
| Flip rule penalty | 0 points |
Ties: Same team number = halved hole, no points exchanged
Team with positive point total after 18 holes
Strategy
- Avoid the flip at all costs - one double from either partner can cost 40+ points
- If your partner is in trouble, your score becomes the second digit - make it as low as you can
- Big swings happen late - stay calm if behind
- Consider hole-by-hole caps (max 20 pts) to prevent blowouts
Example
- Mike10 HCPTeam A
- Dave12 HCPTeam A
- Tom8 HCPTeam B
- Sarah14 HCPTeam B
Hole 14, par 4. Playing with flip rule.
What happens
- Mike scores 5, Dave scores 4. Team A = 45
- Tom scores 5, Sarah scores 7 (double bogey or worse). Would be 57...
- FLIP RULE: Sarah alone is enough. 57 becomes 75!
- Difference: 75 - 45 = 30 points to Team A
- Next hole: Tom (7) and Sarah (8) both double bogey. 78 becomes 87! Team A makes 44.
- Difference: 87 - 44 = 43 points to Team A!
Hole 14 (flip): +30 for Team A. Hole 15 (flip): +43 for Team A. Two holes = 73 point swing!
Two flips in a row cost Team B 73 points in two holes. Vegas can get wild fast.
